Superintendent Messages to Parents:

February 14, 2022

Dear Parents:

Recent data suggest that the COVID-19 Omicron Variant may have peaked, and case rates are dropping across California and in Stanislaus County.  This is welcome news.  You may be aware that the statewide masking requirements for vaccinated individuals in some indoor settings is set to expire on February 15, 2022.  However, indoor masking is still required indoors for both students and staff in K-12 schools.  As a school district and an employer, we are legally required to follow both California Department of Health (CDPH) guidance and regulations established by the California Department of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal-OSHA).

Indoor masking remains an effective mitigation strategy when groups are gathered indoors for long periods of time and can’t socially distance. CDPH announced today, that indoor masking requirements for schools will be reassessed on February 28, 2022.  If case rates and hospitalizations continue to decline, we are hopeful that the masking requirement for schools will become optional at that time. We ask for your patience and understanding as all of us work together through what we hope and pray is the final phase of this pandemic.

As always, the cooperation of our students, parents, and staff is greatly appreciated.   As a reminder, students do not need to wear their masks outdoors, and we encourage our children to take a “mask break” when engaged in healthy physical activity outside of a classroom setting.

We will continue to keep everyone updated as changes occur

Philip M. Alfano, Ed.D.
